Hello from me...
Hello all
The names Rob, based in the E. Midlands of UK. Riding a 05 Tiger at the mo.
Me and the deadweight...sorry, wife, are in our mid/late forties and just got back into distance riding. Last August we went down to Barcelona then across to Italy, I still have some family in Italy. Sadly this year we cant travel as our daughter is getting married. Bugger!!
During the mid/late 80's I did a few trips to Italy on a CBX550 and then a Guzzi Le Mans II. How the hell the Guzzi got there and back still remains a mystery to me!!
Then we did all the stupid things, marriage, child(ones enough ffs!!) house, etc. etc. Went through some hard time as most of us do, but still managed to hang on to a bike through it all.
Then last year we set off for Spain and Italy, and I think we had a kind of epiphany. We ended up staying at my aunts in italy for the second week, but soon realised that it was the travel and not the destination that did it for us.
Anyhow, I am already planning for next year, to distract me from wedding talk. I am never going to go to some of the places that some of you do. Europe will do me just fine thanks. So its Romania and the Balkans for us next year.

Hi Rob,
Welcome (even though I've only just joined myself!)
I'm planning a trip myself from UK via France to Barcelona at the end of September, would appreciate your thoughts on best / interesting / scenic routes?
Romania/Balkans sounds like an interesting trip to do, good luck with the planning!
John

Hi Rob, i am a big fan of riding in Eastern Europe and as you will be in Romania I would suggest a visit to Bulgaria and from there Macedonia. Andy

Thanks guys
John I have to admit we motorway'ed it down to Barcelona. I love French motorways! How sad. But they are just a pleasure to travel on. I never did get up into the Pyrenees. But Barcelona is pretty much everything you expect it to be. We spent about 3 days there, then got itchy feet. And I don't think we even scratched the surface. I'm not big on cities, but it was somewhere that we always wanted to go to. If we had stayed longer, I would have been tempted to take a ride up to Andorra and that area, some good looking roads. Thanks google street view!
Andy, I had not considered Bulgaria really. Was looking at getting to Brasov in Romania and spending a few days in that area. Then wanted to head towards Pristina then Sarajevo and across to Split, and working our way back from their. Vampires for the wife and modern history for me!! And all in two weeks! Is that too much to try and do? I keep hearing about the quality of the roads? Your input is most welcome.
And hi to you Knight. Lucky you! A few hours ride from Stelvio and not far from the Apennines. Perfect.
Rob

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
