Hello from Surrey in the UK.
I have an XR650R which I used for local off road riding, but was mainly a project: I was modifying it for long-distance adventure travel; large tank, new custom-made electrical system, racks, custom made screen etc...
But alas the bike is now in boxes on shelves in the garage - a top-end refresh and an investigation as to why the kick start snags from time time time, has led to a full engine re-build: new left-hand crank case, new gearbox and numerous other small parts one replaces when dismantling the entire engine.
Not to mention replacing all of the bearings for the bike's other moving parts, most of which had literally turned to dust! Headstock, swingarm, suspension linkage, wheels and even the little pulleys that stop the chain flapping about.
Also re-building the wheels with stainless spokes and stronger rims, replacing the carb, re-building a leaky shock and plating and painting everything while it's in bits.
i.e. a full restoration/re-build that is costing more than the bike is worth, and more than I could have bought something else!
But where's the fun in that eh?
Wish me luck, hopefully I'll be able to post a pic of a finished bike mid 2014.
