Hello From West Sussex UK

Hi all,

Andy here from West Sussex England.

I'm 26 and mainly a 2 stroke enthusiast. However I've been riding a a CBF125 for a year just to commute to and from work around 3 miles. It was great, returning 100mpg even with obvious engine wear. However I took it on a run with the local VJMC alongside my dad on his Kettle (GT750) and to keep up I had to give it a good thrashing which resulted in some noises that make me not want to ride it.

It's now laid up in my garage until i get around to rebuilding it but before I could do that i spotted a 94 XT600E on ebay for a good price and I've always wanted an adventure style bike.

A couple of years ago a friend and myself rode from here in west sussex to lands end then up to john o groats and back to west sussex on 125cc bikes and loved it.

We keep talking about riding down to the alps and he has a XT600R so this XT600E i spotted had to be bought.

It's a bit rough and ready and has a few issues that im sorting but I cannot wait to get it on the road.

Photos to follow...

It's a 94 3TB model.

The original engine came with it but in boxes. Seller got it like this and so doesnt know why its been removed.

Its missing the front tank panels and all the other panels and the tank have been sprayed light blue.

I put it in for an MOT and it failed on sus linkage play and rear tyre.

The rear tyre isnt sitting on the rim fully and he said he thinks the rim's had it as it has a couple of dents. It doesnt look too bad to me so I've ordered a set of Conti escapes and will see if i can get it sitting right.

The sus linkage plays appears to be both the upper and lower shock bushes. I've sourced a replacement shock and linkage through ebay which is on its way. I think its from a 90-94 bike as well but it looks like the shock and linkage stayed the same throughout the 90's. If anyone can confirm this it would be useful to know.

The airbox is missing various parts and so im getting a full airbox from the same seller and hopefully the panel that sits just behind it as mine is currently being replaced with a section of innertube.....

I went to change the oil to find that the drain bolt in the frame has been replaced with a stainless allen headed bolt which has then been snapped off inside the thread. I'm not sure whether to try and remove it or just pump the oil out for oil changes. Or if it can be done with just the lower drain plug. Again any info would be appreciated.

I'm trying to get hold of a luggage rack at the moment as ill be using it as my commuting bike and eventually travelling on it.

I'll probably rebuild the original engine to have it ready to go in at some point.

Sorry for the long post.....Hi...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
