Hi from Hertfordshire

Hi

Feeling a bit lost and very new here. This thread I can handle.

I live in Hertfordshire in the UK. I own two bikes: a SV1000S and a Daytona 955i. I've done a number of longish solo road trips through Europe on the SV.

I'm only a handful of years away from retiring and am beginning to feel I want to do something a little more challenging. Though I hope to have plenty of years on two wheels, yet, you never know.

I've never driven a car. I tell people that's because I get seriously car sick very quickly, which is kinda true...

The greatest motorcycling experience I've had to date was riding a 350 Enfield through Southern India with the Enduroindia crew. I also started the Enduro Himalaya with them but that was something of a disaster as I got Delhi Belly on arrival and then altitude sickness and had to come home.

My plans/ongoing fantasies for the moment are to ride into Central Asia via Turkey and the Caucasus. The timing will depend on finances. In the meantime I'm trying to learn some Russian.

Travelling is always a bit of a performance for me because thanks to a medical intervention that went badly wrong 30 years ago I have a very dodgy digestive system - there are loads of things I can't eat without getting too ill to ride for a couple of days. Outside my dietary and linguistic comfort zone that can happen fairly frequently and it usually slows things down just a bit!

I've signed up for Ripley this year to find out what HU is all about. In the meantime, I'll try to find my way around the site.

Cheers

Hud

Welcome

Hi Hud,

The site can be a bit daunting at first, so much info! But it really is a fantastic place, you can spend hours/days pleasantly distracted by this site, but I have to say its essential reading if you're planning that trip. We're off on a rtw 10 weeks today and we're nowhere near as prepared as we need to be, but a lot further ahead than we would have been without the HUBB and a trip to Ripley last year!

Oh yeah, and we're in herts to, Abbots Langley, so if you're ever up for a rideout let us know, theres a couple of us locally.

Cheers

Matt & Kim

New to Horizons Unlimited?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
