I SUPPOSE I should introduce myself...
Hey all!
I've been on the site for about a week now, and figured it's time I properly introduce myself.
I'm an American living in the south of Texas, but I'm not a Texan. I'm retired US Army, and got a job near my last duty station. Partly I didn't move back home because of the economy in Michigan is still not great, and partly because my wife had a job while I was in the Army.
Which brings me to the part about why I joined the site: Two weeks before Thanksgiving, out of the blue, my wife tells me she wants a divorce. Had been depressed, got more depressed....
Fortunately, I've got some good friends. One of them suggested I write down a bucket list, and he'd make sure to help me find a way to make them happen.
#10 on the list was the trip I listed over in "Travelers Seeking Travelers."
When I finished the list, I looked it over, and damned if it didn't strike a chord. So I'm test riding bikes (KTM990 and GSA800 tomorrow), got the Inter-America and IDP, filling out visas, researching like crazy, and waiting for the #%^@#%^&&%*&%** divorce proceedings to finalize. I'm not bitter.
And I've done a little riding. I bought a 1998 Suzuki Katana (no, I'm not taking it around the world) 6 years ago, and while none of my trips have been more than 1000 miles, or off-road, I have been through snow, sleet, hail, rain, wind, tornado warnings, and temps from 26F-105F. I'm no expert, but I know I don't know, and I'm glad to have found an AWESOME resource like HU where there are so many experienced riders who've BTDT, as Army folks like to say. I'm looking forward to getting to know y'all, and I'll see you out on the road.
