Kia ora from New Zealand
G'day there,
We began riding motorbikes in January this year. We love it!
We started with a KLR250 and a Super Sherpa (KL250H), and have since upgraded the KLR to a DR650.
We aspire to quit our jobs and ride from Buenos Aires to Toronto over the course of a year (or more!), starting September 2015.
We're keen to do the trip on two bikes of the same make and model, and would be happy to give any dual sport bike in the 250-650 range a go... KLR, DR, DRZ, Sherpa, V-Strom...
We figure we have 3 options in terms of acquiring bikes for the trip: (1) ship our bikes from NZ to BA and ship them back to NZ again from Canada [pricey!]; (2) ship our bikes from NZ to BA and then sell them in a South/Central/North American country; or (3) buy US or Canadian registered bikes from other travellers in Argentina and sell them when we get to Canada.
Anyone have any helpful hints they'd care to share about these options? Could we get rid of our NZ bikes somewhere in the Americas without paying huge import taxes? If so, where? What are our chances of finding two of the same bikes, registered in US or Canada, in Buenos Aires?
Lovely to meet you all, cheers,
Janet and Scott
