new member planing 2014 trip to spain
Hi Everyone!
I'm from Devon in UK and am a new biker with a Tiger 800xc.
I'm considering a trip down through Spain from Santander to Andalucia in May 2014.
Does anyoune have any accommodation/camping tips (I'm into wild camping wherever I can) and general advice?
Cheers
Morty

Also consider Portugal, I am also thinking of taking a short trip down to Morocco in a couple of months and came across this post by ondoibili
Looks a great route right down the top to the bottom of Portugal

trip tp spain
Hi Morty, sounds like a good trip, Spain is nice. Been through it a number of times en route to Morocco & Portugal. Take care of your possessions, I lock everything on the bike, including the tank bag. If you eat on service stations try to park the bike in view. Remove your sat nav if you leave the bike at any time, even to pay at the pump. tip tourtech do a nice lockable sat nav holder for round the 100 120 Euro, handy for quick stops. Spain has a kinda bad name, but I have to stress I have never experienced anything much. Watch your change on petrol stations & toll. If you pay by credit card check the amount. But this of course is mostly common sense Take a small pocket dictionary with you. Preferable one that gives a quick menu translate. In spain they only speak Spanish. I have only stayed on camp sites & in cheap hotels. Have slept for a couple of hours next to the bike without any hassle. Not to sure what the law is on wild camping though. Will try to find out. Weather in May is good, not to warm ..... kinda pleasant . My advice ... keep yer head screwed on & just go for it. You have a really nice bike for the trip so have a time Keep the rubber side down Vince

Camping in Spain
Hi Morty, May is an excellent time to travel in Spain. The weather is beautiful and there are not many people in the campgrounds. Wild camping with a tent is not allowed in Spain. Only vivac is permitted in the wilderness.

hy morty, don't worry about camping in spain.it is true that it is not legal to camp around but weather in may is perfect, so you will not need a camping tent, just your sleeping bag will be enought. I like travelling by bike, motorbike or camper car and If you speak spanish you can visit "furgoperfecto" web page where you can find hundreds of nice places for sleeping without problems.
I hope this help you.
Have a nice trip!
Pedro.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
