It's always good to get your teeth into something without biting off more than you can chew, and a trip to Austria will be great for that. Your EU phone, passport, insurance and EHIC will all be valid in Europe so there's no major paperwork exercise involved (UK remains part of EU for all practical purposes until the end of the year). You can buy breakdown cover but it's not cheap so many people just take basic tools/spares with them. A way to fix a puncture is certainly worth considering.
Rough out a route, decide how many kms you want to do in a day and either book or plan your night stops. In Europe there are few opportunities for wild camping so that normally means either official camp sites or hotels/b&b. Google is useful in researching places or landmarks that you might want to visit along the way. Check out the countries that have motorway tolls and consider avoiding motorways in that case (Austria you have to buy a "vignette" at the service station where you enter the country if you want to use their autobahns, France and Italy have toll plazas).
Enjoy
