Newbie traveler from Ontario
Hi there, I'm Dan! I live in Niagara Falls ON, Canada I ride a 2015 V-Strom 1000 and am a bit of newbie to travelling, but hope to get more experience doing trips around Canada and the US, and hopefully step up to some more serious overland treks in the future.
I got bitten by the touring bug when my great-uncle gave me a hand-me-down Honda CX650E with some Krauser hard cases on it that had been sitting for 20 years. I had been riding sport bikes until then and with a mechanical background I fixed the old girl up and decided to try my hand at a long-ish trip. In 2014 I rode up to Lake Superior Provincial Park and camped for 5 days in single digit temperatures and steady drizzle, over-packed, yet under-equipped, but full of enthusiasm. I loved it so much that the next year I rode around Lake Superior taking some gravel logging roads and exploring the back country a little. In 2016 I did long weekend trips to Pennsylvania, and Quebec, and took a shot at riding down to Tail of The Dragon... Until I wiped out in Roanoke VI and had to limp the bike home with a badly bent front brake lever and a completely busted rear master cyl.
In 2017 I had bought a new bike and kitted it out with some serious touring gear with hopes of doing a big trip out west. Unfortunately I took a whack to the head at work and spent the rest of the year dealing with concussion symptoms that even now are still lingering a bit.
However I'm starting to hash out my plans again to ride out to Kelowna BC to visit some family in August... next year I plan on hitting the Maritimes, possibly getting as far as St. Anthony NF. That and my Uncle in Iowa wants to take a stab at the Continental Divide with me, possibly in 2019.
In the mean time I'm going to see if I can get to the HUM in May, and do as many weekend outings as I can afford to

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
