Hello to all

I am a keen motorcyclist in my 50s and a new member of Horizon Unlimited. I have been on two wheels pretty much since owning my first 50cc at the age of 14. I’ve had a few motorcycles since then, road and enduro, worked in the motorcycle industry for most of my life, and toured around Europe on various occasions.

I’m now planning a trip to India with my wife two up on a Transalp starting in September. I stumbled across Horizons Unlimited when looking for info on various practical issues and realised that this looks like the type of forum I would like to be part of.

Our original plan was to travel through Iran and Pakistan, but after online searches we thought that for security reasons both countries were best avoided. We also considered the Iran/Oman route and then have our bike shipped to Mumbai. Now it seems that a ‘nicer’ alternative would be to ride through Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and then have the bike and ourselves flown to Delhi since, apparently, riding through that part of China is going to be problematic, especially in winter.

We now seem to be back to square one with our plan as we keep reading conflicting reports as to what can and what can’t be done…!

Hopefully I can get a few tips on this forum, and post a few along the way.
