Smile Thought it was about time we intoduced ourselves!

So, we're Matt and Kim (or Kim and Matt if she's typing!) and we've been lurking on here and gathering info for ages and thought it was about time we introduced ourselves. We live in Watford, Herts (is there anyone else close by?) and we're prepping for our first big overland adventure.

How we got here:

Having both traveled a bit, and both dreaming one day a conversation went a little like this:

KIM: I loved to see more of the world

MATT: Uh? oh yeah me too.

KIM: What would be your ultimate trip?

MATT: Uh?

KIM: What would be your ultimate way to see the world?

MATT: puts down 'Jupiters Travels' Honestly, I'd love to do it on a bike!

KIM: A motorbike?

MATT: Yeah, couldn't think of any better way to see the world.

KIM: Okay lets do it!

MATT: What both of us ride around the world on a couple of motorbikes?

KIM: Yeah!

MATT: Hang on, have you ever been on a motorbike before?

KIM: No

That was a little more than a year ago, and things are moving fast.

Where we're at

So, we bought a couple of DR650's (not an easy thing to do in Blighty, but the lower seat height was important for Kim), Kim learnt to ride and we're busily kitting ourselves and the bikes out ready for our big trip. You may have seen us hopelessly underprepared and squeezed on to one of th DR's at Ripley - our tent was held together with gaffer tape after the first night so last night we booked our ferry and we leave for Europe on Monday 26th April 2010 - It's getting proper real now. After an extensive tour of Europe we will head down the east side of Africa before heading over to India, through to Singapore, then an extended stay in OZ to earn some much needed pennies before we head to the Americas.

So...

We just wanted to say hi, and what a fantastic site this is. You'll be seeing posts popping up from us quite a bit in the coming months and weeks and your thoughts and advice are very welcome, god knows we need it!

We'll aslo be heading up to Dent for Dazzers mini meet, so hopefully see some of you there!

Matt & Kim

Welcome Matt and Kim. My wife and I are in a somewhat similar position, though not as far along as you are. She is learning to ride so she can take some trips with me too. Remember to keep us up to date on all your travels.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
