Question UK to Morocco and need advice!!!!!

Hello all,

Just joined and thought I would say hi!

My brother and I are off to Morocco next year and so the big plan has started, were travelling from London to France, through Spain and then across to Morocco to head over the Atlas Mountains and into the Desert.

3 weeks!

Were heading down on the east side of both France and Spain and switching to the West of Morocco where our target destination is Agadir, we can then travel back the opposite way over the mountains.

Now it easy to plan a trip on the major roads but we really do want to travel down "off the beaten track" so I need to start getting routes and roads together to fill our 6000 ish mile journey!

If anybody has advice for a couple of first timers then please feel free to share it with us, I have a HUGE road map of each country and I'm ready to start scribbling.

Cheers all,

Tom

Hi Tom,

1.
2. Don't put so many exclamation marks in your post title; it's considered offensive
3. Get a copy of Chris Scott's book Morocco Overland

Have fun,

Gee

I knew about the capitals = shouting convention but I've not been aware of the exclamation marks = something offensive rule. Must have come close to slapped wrists a few times myself then.

Anyway, welcome to Tom and good luck with the trip. I've done 4500 miles (London - Tangiers area and back) in two weeks using your route through France and Spain so 6000 in three weeks should be doable but I do remember spending a lot of time on the bike. Unless you want to see a lot of European motorways you might consider taking a shortcut via the ferry to Spain. That'll cut 2/3 off the distance to southern Spain, save you about four days and if you allow for the saving in motorway tolls, fuel, tyres etc may be cheaper than you think.

Another vote for using Chris Scott's book once you're in Morocco. You might want to spend a happy hour or two looking through the back posts in the Morocco section here. If you haven't visited the country before some of it might not make sense but Morocco can be a bit of a culture shock so the more background info you have the easier it might be.

You're absolutely right. Wrong term (we Dutch will never learn)

Cheers,

Gee

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
