Hi,

The only way I have got him to reply to my emails is by telephoning him on his mobile number to inform him that i have sent him an email.
Otherwise they seem to go unanswered.

Perhaps he's really busy with all our requests.

regards

Ahh, that's why there's no reply... I'd given up and filed the contact details (I think in the bin)... can either of you PM me with them?

Hi Alex,

The numbers I have are:

Mobile Phone: 013899132103, 0086 998 2204012
Office Phone : 0086 998 2204012,
Fax: 0086 998 2980471

I tried calling him on the mobile numbers earlier on today but just got a recorded message in chinese that i didn't understand.

Please let us know if you manage to get through.
Also how are your plans for your trip going, and when will you enter China?

Angel/Joe,

another idea... Call John's Cafe in Kashgar. Its in the grounds of the Seman Hotel in Kashgar and Abdul also operates out of and office the Semen Hotel Lobby. They may be able to tell you if he is still operating or point you in the direction of one that is.

Numbers/email for John's Cafe are : info@johncafe.net johncafe@hotmail.com
Tel:0086-998-2581186 Fax:0086-998-2580096 ( John's Information Service & Caf¨¦ On The Silk Road)
(they do organised trips for the coach tourists or anyone else that wants them)

I have also emailed another agent contact... awaiting reply and will let you know.

John

I sent a fax off this morning, as I tend to think they're better than leaving phone messages, but nothing yet. Then again perhaps he has access to a fax and not a fax of his own.

Just mailed John's Café too, thanks for that.

Thumbs up Update on contacts

Hi Guys,

another contact that I mailed has come back to me - Taher of Newland Travel.

He is still in business and Abdul does some work for him. You can mail him on:
newlandonthetour AT hotmail.com

I can only say that he and Abdul were very helpful to us last year and seems to be the only guys that talk sense.

I still do not fully understand the legality of a guide. The agent we had to deal with in Urumqi said the at a guide was "highly recommended" by the authorities... does that make it law?

One thing for sure is that you will NOT be able to do your own processing at the border without a guide/agent. You also need the agent to get all the permits etc sorted BEFORE you arrive.

Best of luck with the trip, you WILL enjoy it if you get there.

John

Hi,

I managed to speak to Abdulwahap today on his mobile number, and he later replied by emial. I told him that there were a number of people keen to contact him and that he should check his email more frequently. He apologised for not staying in touch as he does not have internet access when visiting his home village.
Also he said that he will be away for the next 13 days or so on a guided trip to Umruqi. So guys, do drop him an email and be patient.

Also I got an email reply from John Hu, the other tour guide located within the same hotel.

Hope this helps,
