Importing into Nepal
Unfortunately I'm in Delhi now, on my way home to the UK (On a Bullet !), and not sure who/where I could chase up on this one :confused1: but tax is about 100% (I know 'cos I paid exactly double for my new Bullet 3 years ago, but did it so I could get a Carnet to get home, which you can't on an Indian registered bike).
The thing I am thinking though is why would you want to actually officially import anything in to India (or Nepal for that matter) ? If it's for riding in India a Nepali plate is just the same as any other plate (i.e you'll need a carnet, and after one year would have to pay the full tax if you didn't take it out again anyway) so you'd be better off buying in any other country (than Nepal or India) and flying a bike out, as it would still be a lot cheaper (any bike would have to be flown in to Nepal anyway, as you can only get in Nepal what you get in India, though less so ! Actually there are a few old knackered XJ650s here, mainly non-runners, but I doubt that's what you're after !).
If you want a long term bike (well up to 12 months) in India, the cheapest way would be to buy one in your home country (or where ever you can legally get one in your name), get a Carent, then fly it out. There would also then be no problem with getting it out again at the end if you wanted.
PS. I'm presuming you're not Indian, as if you are there's no way round paying the tax, no matter where your bike originated as I understand it !
