Going from China-Tibet to Nepal
Hi,
We are two guys who plan a trip from China to Europe this Summer and right now we are deciding on the route.
One possibility would be trough Tibet and into Nepal.
I know that you can enter Tibet just with a guide.
Has anyone done something similar recently?
Any contacts to trustful tour operators?
Is it possible to cross Tibet to Nepal - I was reading through the forum and the only thing that is mentioned is crossing from Nepal to China with superexpensive tour companies... not the other way round
We both have chinese licenses, visas and motorbikes - so i hope that can bring the cost down a bit.
Thanks

When we were up in Jomsom I heard they were making or thinking of making the Mustang road a bit more vehicle friendly, I think it's just a hiking trail. Come on light bikes I'd say
Sorry no contacts.. but the road to Jomsom is pretty good fun!

As you have Chinese gear and licenses, you need an ATA carnet to leave China. Will cost you some deposit (depends on negotiation), and you have to bring back your mbike to China within 6 months. Routing via Tibet-PROVINCE (= southern part of Tibet) can be much more difficult (because of PERSONAL restrictions) than via Mongolia / Russia (we did). And don't forget to buy an international insurance... - yongshi

Hi goldenboy, We are also 2 guys planning overland trip across China and then crossing over to India. We are also puzzled with the same question. We also have Chinese visas, licences and motorbikes. I have gathered some information about cheaper travel agency for travel within Tibet. Hope we both find a way out of this.........
All the best !!!

goldenboy: when are you going? Will you be traveling through China as well? I will buy two second hand bikes in China for a trip inside the country, but not sure what to do with them afterwards.

Hi goldenboy,
Do you know if the ATA is required to leave China with Chinese registered motorcycles? I am trying to find that out now. I would have no intention of bringing the bike back after leaving. Thanks a lot
