Are you considering not wearing one in Indian traffic? I'd wear one on the bus!
The law doesn't stop you wearing one and coppers the world over will find an excuse to stop you for one thing or another (or not) as they feel like it. Wear a helmet and find a bad cop and you get done for a tail light that wasn't working when he looked (but is now). Find a good cop with no helmet and he'll tell you to get one before he see's you again.
Wear the helmet for your own safety and let the lawyers argue the rest IMHO.

Freedon of choice!
I am a great believer in freedoms for everyone with the least possible enforcements of laws and regulations.... but i gotta agree with Andy on this, India is one scary place to ride a motorbike! On a bike, you are at the very bottom of the automotive food chain and this is reflected how everything else on the road interacts with you, be they trucks, buses, cars, people, cows, pot holes and even people on bicycles!
Your choice, but i know what i would do, regardless, enjoy India, it is a fantastic place.

Hi
Whilst riding around India I ditched my motorcycle suit as the heat was too intens so chose to ride in jeans and t-shirt BUT I always wore a helmet and boots as not only are you at the bottem of the food chain on a bike when it comes to traffic laws but I wouldn't want to end up in a hospital in India with a massive head injury.
Having spent a few months working in both a goverment and private hospital in India, I know that you would not want to end up there.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
