India - Bike Storage
Hey guys,
I’m hoping to leave my bike in India for around 10 days, whilst I fly back to England for a friends wedding.
Am I correct in thinking that this won’t become a problem when I arrive at Passport Control at New Delhi Airport? I have a CdP for the bike.
Thanks,
James

Hi James,
If it is written into your passport it possibly will be a problem, India is very strict about temporarily imported vehicles and in theory you should not leave the country without it, although some of us have done so before but I have never heard of it being done in India. If it is not too late to change your plans go to Nepal, they are a lot more flexible, if not let us know how you get on, good luck.

I left my bike in India for 5 months between 2017 and 2018.
It was on carnet and not on my passport.
No problem.
Attached an official indian document I had with me, stating it is legal: maximun 6 months, it says.
I don't know if things changed now...

Hi James,
What happened in the end? Did they let you go?

India does not record your bike in your passport. You are free to come and go as you please and the bike can remain in the country for as long as your visa, and not the CDP, is valid.

Actually not my experience, but maybe things changed.
As I wrote before in this thread, I did this trip in 2017-2018.

Bike storage in Índia
How is the situation right now?
With CDP it’s possible to park the bike ?
How long can I park it without major problems?

It is no problem and you can leave it as long as your VISA is valid for, not the CDP. They dont write in the passport.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
