India Enfield, how old it needs to be for import to UK/EU without modifications?
Hi, Just done a search but can't find how old a bike needs to be so it can be imported and ride without modifications into UK or other EU countries.
I'm in India and I'm considering importing and old bike. 60s bike are very very expensive but late 70s early 80s still reasonable.
Any information or pointer to it will be most appreciated,
Thanks a lot,
DD

I think you must mean how old does the bike have to be to make it exempt from SVA test and as long as the vehicle is over 10 years old you do not need to comply with the SVA test.
Although i'm still not gauranteing you still won't have to do some mod's to the vehicle for use in eu/uk.

Which authority will know, DVLA?
Thanks Brian,
Just wondering which authority regulates it, DVLA?
I'll look through their pages now, I'll post if I find something(, Indian internet cafe's permitting!)

Additionally if the frame is pre 1971 and the bike is registered as such, you wont have to pay uk road tax.
This opens the possibility to get a lean burn Engine and /or five speed box installed in India before you return. You could keep the old engine cases, have them beefed up with bigger main bearings and install the 575 or 612 cc upgrade.
These come withh fully machined crankshafts so you will have perfect dynamic balance. With a go faster kit from Hitchcocks they are capable of over 115mph and still be reliable.

Hi,
I know part of the fun is 'bringing one back' but enfields have very low second hand value in the UK and post 2000 are actually made (relatively) well. You could probably pick up a decent 350 in the UK for a few hundred quid. Which might be less than the shipping costs? (I dunno what the shipping costs are, this is speculation). It would also have all the benefits of being an export model.
If I didn't have a grudging love for my (relatively) reliable 350 you could have it for about £400.

400 quids is a good price for a any running bullet. From india, the shipping would be around 15-18k rupees about £150

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
