India - Myanmar by car, no guide?
Firstly, I want to say that I have never been to Myanmar and know fairly little about the rules of entering the country.
But reading articles such as this, it seems that things may be changing with regard to entering Myanmar overland, though the situation for vehicles may be different compared to pedestrians (like in China).
So it would be interesting to hear from anyone who in the near future tries to enter Myanmar from India (or vice-versa) with a vehicle, to see if the guide requirement is still in place.
We can all speculate with regard to what the situation might be, or what we wish it to be, but please let's base this on facts, i.e. direct personal experience or reliable sources.
Thanks
EO

Did you recently try to get in without an arranged guide?

Overland in Myanmar now much cheaper
Hi, I live in Myanmar (running a travel agency) and did overland to the Netherlands myself and we organise permits, insurance etc.
It's much cheaper now than in the past but we still need a Myanmar guide travelling along - to give an indaction of the cost: a trip for 2 persons for 7 days would be 1075 Usd in total for all paper work, insurance, guide and his accommodation, food etc) IF the guide can join in you car (not incl your own accommodation, food etc). Send me email for more info: edwin@khiri.com

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
