+1, If you need to travel a lot of highway, dont get a scooter like Kinetic nova. Its good for the beaches of goa but not good for the high passes of himalayas.

Ok flat out at 45mph sounds slow until you see your fifth pig, cow, goat, mad dog jump out directly in front of you.

Just back from Goa and travelled about on a 350 bullet.
It really is the only way to go, all other bikes (inc. the ubiquitous Hero Honda) are fine for short trip zips even with a family and the pet dog on board but if you plan relaxed two up touring then get yourself aboard a bullet.
Ours broke down at fairly regular intervals usually ending up with a quick cheap roadside fix, a gaggle of new friends made plus a greatly advanced sense of "I can fix anything" pride not to mention another after dinner story that will live on for years after the trip ends.

One day in particular we set off at around 9am for a twenty minute trip to the main town to pick up a form then spending the afternoon on the beach.
After running out of petrol [vegetable kiosk 100yds away sold petrol in water bottles for 55 rupees]
Snapped a clutch cable arriving at T junction and at the same time realizing the engine torque at tickover will actually overpower the brakes! [man in nearby house strip cable and fits temporary nipple] Reluctantly charge 100rupees
Petrol cap falls to bits trying to fill tank [mechaanic one mile away replaces and services whole bike including replacing ignition switch, oil and filter] 1,500 rupees we eventually arrived back at the shack at 10pm for a well deserved kingfisher and a curry, what a great day!

Yes it sounds like a nightmare and it would be if you were late for a meeting and stuck on the M25 in the rain but we made more friends and had more fun and laughter that day than virtually any other part of the trip as well as finding out first hand just how generous and helpful the local Indian guys are.

Slip a bullet under your punjab, you won't regret it
