I sure hope nothing comes of this. Being a "yankee" not living in America I'm not at all in support of it and would hope most other "yankees" aren't as well.
And by "yankee" I am assuming you mean American.
Yankee has very different meanings based on who is using it.
If you are a non-english speaker, "yankee" generally means someone who speaks english.
If you speak english but aren't from the US, "yankee" generally means an American.
If you are from the US but not from the north, "yankee" means someone from north of the mason-dixon line.
If you are from the north but not the northeast, "yankee" means someone from the northeast.
There is one more iteration inside the northeast but I can't remember what it is. Something to do with a specific city or set of cities.
