Well here's my rough plan for this trip. please let me know what you think.
I really dont want to go northern Pakistan, just through Karachi and than to the west to India. what's the best route after Karachi into India??

There is only one border crossing for vehicular traffic between Pakistan and India and that is from Lahore ie Wagah/Atari. It appears Stash that you will have to drive 1200 kms north from Karachi to Lahore first.
You cannot drive straight from Taftan (Irani border) till Karachi via RCD Highway due to law and order problems. If you really want to visit Karachi youl have to stick to the main roads and turn south from Sukkur.
In your plan youl be missing KKH and the north, well its your choice but I wont advise you. You can visit the 5000 years old cities of Moenjodaro and Harrapa on this route.

well thanx for the tip, I see your point. now I do go north from Karachi, I might aswell go into Nepal and than head down to india. it will be better like that I guess, and I wont miss the 5000 year old settlements.
can I come from India to Karachi from more southern point of India? is there problem only going from Pakistan to India or is it the same both way in or out?

Same both ways Wagah/Attari is the only crossing point.

Pete rightly mentioned that Wagah/Attari is the only option available for road traffic. This way you will have to reach Delhi which is 450 kms from the border. From there you can go north to Nepal or South to Bombay etc
Lahore is on the northern side of Pakistan and KKH starts another 400 kms north.

Hi Ash,
Hope you and your family are well, you must be very busy now and not having a lot of time to get out into those great mountains.
We will be back at some point but not sure when, there's lots of places we haven't seen yet but one day

Cheers
Pete

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
