IRAN tour guide cost

I will be coming from Pakistan into Iran and onto Armenia come mid April of this year. Unfortunately I am a USA citizen so a tour guid is needed. Is there anyone that would be interested in sharing the expense of a tour guide in Iran. I gotten contact with a few companies but solo I am looking at 5000$. If someone has info on a tour company cost that also would be helpful. I have contacted 3 others but unfortunately no response with a cost.
Thanks
Dan

I tried heading to Tehran from Armenia and negotiated at the border - ended up the best price I could get is USD 2K for a 7 day trip to Tehran and back north to the border. I just felt very uneasy with the "guide" and their expectations that I would stay where they insisted, pay for their costs for 7 days etc. I headed back north and enjoyed the Caucasus.

Have you considered not getting a tour and chancing it at the border?

I'm from England and have been told that you have to get a tour to take you through. But then I've read that you can get a visa not mentioning that you are going to be travelling by bike so they don't insist you take a tour. Then once you get to the border if you have a visa and a carnet then you should be good to go...

Or is that fake news and if they see an American or British passport at the border they ask where is you're tour guide?

Hi.

We are two Swiss travelling with triumph tigers 800 and are planning on going to India through Iran and Pakistan. We'll cross into Iran at the middle of September.

We got the carnets de passage and the Iranian visas.

Some people at the Iranian embassy in Switzerland told us we needed to get a tour guide at least for the first days in Iran and that if we didn't have it we could be turned around at the border in bazargan.

Do you guys know anything about this ?

You're mixing up 2 different things. US, Canada and UK citizens are required by law to take a guided tour.

Travellers with their own vehicle that request an authorization code through Iranian travel agencies will occasionally be told they also require a guide. This is pure opportunism in the hopes of earning some more money from you.

My experience of Barzagan is that it is a very busy, well organised, chaotic, international border with many fixers on both sides that seem to be part of the scene and are tolerated by the officials.they can be very useful if you get one that speaks your prefered language well enough to understand your requirements.at the moment. As said in the answer above you do not need guides.if you are told you need one it will be a scam aand do not accept until the formal official tells you so and you believe him.however, bear in mind that things change.iran is a fab and friendly place to travel.
Happy trails.
