Myanmar... Am I being Dumb?
Quick Question if I may... (Cus I'm stuck for an answer!)
My provisional RTW Route means travelling East from India/Bangladesh to Thailand/Laos/Vietnam...
Now I've just read that I can't enter Myanmar from the West, only from the East, and If I can't enter China and navigate my way round I could well be stuck... Or have to get on a Boat round Myanmar...
HELP
Is this right? If not where can I enter Myanmar from the West? If I can't options?
Thanx people )

You can't ride through Myanmar at all - everyone just flies over it. Check the Shipping database - link on left - and the travellers stories, search the site on Myanmar, and you'll find lots of info on it.
have a great trip!

Hi Fletch.
Am considering returning to Oz from Uk next year overland and had Myanmar pencilled in. Other routes don't look so favourable (at first glance) and wanted to keep flying/shipping to a minimum. So will be interested to find out what you decide as an alternative. Good luck. Lenzzzzzzzzzz

Yep the answer is no = no riding through Myanmar. There are no motorcycle friendly entry points on the Thai / Myanmar border. Only Simon & Suzi got thru from India a couple of years ago, but they had to wait 3 months in India for permits and then had to have their bike trucked part of the way as it was / is not permissible for westerners to ride / travel by land through non govt controlled areas in Myanmar. So the tip is to give up on the idea & fly your bike into Thailand.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
