Where to buy a bike in Nepal?
I was planning a trip to Nepal, India, and the stans. I am planning on starting out in Nepal and wanted to pick up a new bike like an XR250 Tornado or DR200SE. Does anyone one if these are easy bikes to find and where I could pick one up? I am open to other bikes if anyone has a suggestion. I realize that the import tax is high in Nepal and I will end up paying for the bike, but it is still easier than shipping one from the states. I will also try to get the carnet de passage once I pick up the bike, any advice there would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.
By the way, I was originally going to go with an RX135 from Hearts and Tears in Pokhara, but I think they are closed for a while.

Dealers
There are lots of dealers in Kathmandu (nearly on every corner) you will not have any trouble buying your bike there. If you do....let me know & I will give you a number of a biker friend that lives in Kathmandu & he will help.
Cheers

advice request on motorbiking nepal india and the -stans
Hi,
I am planning a trip to Nepal, India and the -stan countries this winter 2013 and spring 2014.
I am planning to buy a motorbike in Nepal, since it s the only country allowing registration for foreigners.
Any info about the sellers, prices, registration procedure and cost, bikes available, and advices for Nepal would be very appreciated
Any advice or experience about the indian, pakistani and other stan countries crossing would also help a lot.
Thanks in advance, I can t wait to read your advices !

OK guys, I did this trip myself last year, so here goes.
1st, find a bike, try ... hamrobazar.com :: Nepal's Online Marketplace it's like a Nepali ebay, with loads of bikes for sale, and you can check it out from home !
2nd, before you can register the bike in Nepal, you will need a 'Letter of no objection' from your Embassy, easy enough, just takes time and an extortionate 'processing fee'.
3rd, CDP, you cannot get your CDP untill you have your bike, this can cause problems, as whilst theoretically, the RAC of Nepal can issue them, in practice they don't, so most people get them from their home country, I got mine in UK ( I'm a Brit ).I would suggest contacting the issuing org. in your home country first, to inform then of your plans and confirm that they are agreeable.
4th, Visas, unless you have residence in Nepal or India, you will have to apply for your Pak visa in your country of residence. If you are entering Nepal from India, then make sure your Indian visa is multiple entry, as you will be re-entering on your return.
5th, depends which route your taking, as both China and Iran have their own unique challenges !
Good luck, UB.
