How mad am I?
Ok so after the usual Transalps, Vstroms, DRs and inevitable GS I found myself looking for something different and light and cheap....and, living in France (well at present) I have put a deposit down on a Mash 400R Adventure - essentially the WK400......(ex demo with 1500kms but 2017 reg)
Its due to be delivered next week...
Am I going to regret this?

I can't answer you question, but if you can't find one try with the "Mash Adventure 400". It is the same bike.
(also the Shineray XY 400)

Mash - how am I doing?
hi - well to all those who are looking for feedback on the Mash, I have now covered 3300 kms and have a bit to report.
In the first place I should start that it has never let me down nor failed to start.
Next up I probably should advise that I purchased the bike remotely (i.e. email / internet) from a dealer in France where I was living so never got to inspect or ride it before purchase - it was a demo so had 1500kms on it when I bought it - a good sign I thought!
Before going into "comments" on the bike itself, I should say (and after living there for 4 years and global travel) that imho France is perhaps the worst place in the world to purchase anything. Customer service is non-existent at best and descends to appalling / rude etc quickly.
Right - the bike
So on delivery the dip beam didn't work - simple ground somewhere I reckon but I don't ride at night so its not actually an issue. I have rewired the bulbs so main is dip and that works grand. There is a oil seep from the cylinder / rocker head so I get a little bit hazed by oil smoke when stopping in traffic. Of most annoyance are the front forks - I had (on order) asked for the fork oil to be changed (its a usual issue) and so when I get it - not done and the front forks don't really rebound as such - a rebuild / new valves (and a seal) will be needed. Its not awful and after being done it will be really good (I hope). Finally, while I thought the front wheel needed balancing, a bike mechanic who looked at it reckoned it was actually buckled (!) I get a shake at 50-65kms but lower and higher speeds its actually fine.
What else - oh yes if you whack it off the (absent) redline on gear changes (done 2 times from 2nd - 3rd) the EMS shuts you down and you have to restart. I practiced a third time just to confirm that was what was happening - its shocking the first time but now I know I don't mind / its avoidable.
Other comments you may have read - yes the side stand is too long.
I got the engine bars and lamp guards from the WK 400 as well as an ally top box.
Previous bikes (there have been many) include Transalp, GS800, DR200, dr650, xt660 and some other things.
Impressions - well, the engine has really loosened up (a lot) and I reckon its perhaps 20% quicker now than when I got it first (and that was at 1500kms!).
I read the reviews and thought it ticked all my boxes (apart from ABS) and still like the look of it.
The funny and pleasant surprise...? It has bronze wheels !

Thanks for posting, a really good report. I don't think I would be as chilled out as you are about leaks and lights!
I looked at MASH before buying the Enfield. The demo bike had rust showing which put me off.

Hmm - interesting as that was my alternate choice!
Funny I present as chilled about the issues - well annoyed at first but as the wheels continue to roll the confidence (and perspective) grows.
Having been let down on a number of occasions (including at the side of the road) by my F800GS I lost all faith in BMW - and vowed never to buy another!
The fuel gauge on the GS over read (said you had more than you did) - this is a known fault (and despite warranty SW upgrades remained during my time of ownership). The Mash has a fuel gauge which under reads (also a regular issue) so I intentioanally ran it to dry over the past week - up until last night after...... 349kms - I then threw the filled 5l can I had into it and rode home no issue.
So I filled up this morning - (counting the 5l it took 18.9 litres for a total (inc home to station) of 359.7kms or 53mpg...as that has purely been hacking (enthusiastically) in traffic on a fully loaded side cases on stop start 18km commute (and I have seen 59mpg without trying) its real world range is not bad at all.....
Anything fallen off the enfield yet?

Well, so my experience with the Mash 400 R has been somewhat treading the line between my optimism and the "don't ever buy Chinese".... some would definitively say I got a lemon and be smug about it too....
The reality (at least MY reality) is that my GS800 (main dealer purchased with 6k kms from new) was in many ways just as bad (?) and set against higher expectations the fall from grace much further!
With 3500kms on it now, the wee 400 is revving much easier and a whole lot quicker - which given that it could probably do with a valve n spark check suggests (at least to me) that the oil is probably well in need of changing...
So I have it booked in for the forks and the engine head leak to be done - as this is mostly labour (and I am have no faith in Sima / Mash as importers) I am leaving it with my trusted local mechanic.....

Back in business
Well, after a brief spell away (riding the CRF250 in Vietnam actually!) I am back in Dublin and my Mash is fettled and fine. I have some info on the items which were "wrong" with the bike...
So the oil leak seemed to be a combination of misaligned / undertightened breather pipe and my generous filling sloppiness with the oil can in topping up. No "real" oil leak found and after several days of riding (and post full engine clean) no smokiness.
On disassembly however a leak in the fuel tank sender was found (and with the replacement sender (20$) fitted and adjusted as per another websites recommendations for the WK400 sender) may be more accurate now also.
The non operation of the dip beam was a detached wire in a multi block connector - under the tank. Resolved easily, I took the opportunity to upgrade to the newer switch gear (mind you I now beep instead of cancel indicators all the time).
The wheel was straightened - mind you the feedback I received wasn't great - said the join was approximate and the job done was the best possible - it seems a lot better to ride mind.
Fork seal replaced and the oil drained in both and refilled - this is a well known issue and the supplying agent said he did it - one was empty and the other filled with crud so he simply didn't do it at all. Fork operation now is smooth (better than CRF250 imho).
what else? With a valve adjustment the pick up is noticeably stronger - regularly overpowering the rear tyre in lower gears in the wet - Kenda is not as good as the equivalent Dunlop...
I applied some stickers and the extra lamps so the bike is finally close to how I wanted it to look (a bit OTT for most I guess.....)
Finally - am I happy? Yes even with the above I think I have a nice bike at a decent price - something that (unlike the GS is not on every street corner and traffic lights) even if the exhaust is a tad noisy!
