Mexico To Ushuaia - Three Flats
Hi, I'm and old Brit, 74, so what I post may not have much bearing for other bikers. I spent a great fun weekend in Texas last year driving a Hummer as backup two four Texans on big bikes (until I got lost in Amarillo). I then bussed across the border to Mexico and bought a Honda 125 in Santacruz on which I rode south from Cortes' first house to Ushuaia ( my personal conquest over the weight of years). Crossed a pass at 4,700 metres, rode in a sand storm, through sleet and snow, gales in Patagonia, and a hellish boat trip to Cartagena from Colon. The rest was FUN! See my Blog at simongandolfi.com. There were times I longed for more power. However I don't have the leg power to hold a heavier bike upright. Nor do I have a sufficiently opulent pension for big gas bills. As to breakdowns, I had three punctures in the rear tyre! And EVERY Honda agent who serviced the bike insisted it was the most trouble free bike Honda has ever manufactured. So maybe it is the perfect bike for an Old Man. I start north at the end of May to Duchess County, NY. I have one dream: a more comfortable seat. Any suggestions? email; me at simon@simongandolfi.com
