I believe most of the parts are manufactured in Thailand nowadays with final assembly here so that "the flag can be flown" in the labelling.
A mate of mine visited the UK factory quite a few years ago and he was very impressed with the hand finishing work, such as painting the pin-stripe onto the tanks of Bonnevilles, all done by hand, and no robot needed.

Just too resurrect an old thread, how would a R1200GS compare to the Tiger ?
seen a nice 2005 model in a local dealer and SWMBO said she could help towards the purchase !!!
Still twice the price of a decent Tiger !

I reckon you sold the best option a while ago. The 1100GS build quality is much better than the 1150. I have had an 1100 for several years and it is the best bike I have owned in 35 years of biking. I also own an 1150R and although the extra gear is nice on the faster roads it doesn`t make up for the less `solid` feel of the 1100.
Incidently, I have also owned the steamer Tiger. It was OK on tarmac once I sorted out the ergonomics with risers and Renthal Dakar bars but I wouldn`t want to take it anywhere near loose or muddy surfaces. Way higher seat and centre of gravity! The dive from the forks was monumental as well.

Think your probably right, the 1100GS is the most confident inspiring bike I've ever ridden. Nothing feels as planted and sure footed.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
