Japanese lady riders
Couple of years ago I met 2 Japanese girls riding Suzuki 250 Jebels from Cape Town back Japan or as far as they would get. We were in a Landcruiser doing a double trans Africa. The girls were not travelling together all the time but hooked up for the tough stretches. We travelled for a couple of weeks with one of them through Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt and she told us her story.
They both entered a contest by Suzuki what they would do when they were given a new Jebel! They fantasised about crossing Africa and they won and they got the new bikes from Suzuki and were send of to South Africa! From that moment they were on their own. They spoke only very little English and had no clue about mechanics at all, as matter of fact they could not really drive bikes but they were funny and charming as hell.
I know one of them (Noriko) made it all the way to India and then was fed up with the travelling and got back home.
We travelled for 5 weeks together and those were excellent weeks and I got to know and appreciate a bit of the Japanese culture and habits.
