3AJ Fuel Pump
Hello all
Brief introduction - I've just got a 3AJ planning a trip to Istanbul with a mate this autumn. I'm happily going through the motions of making the 'new' bike mine and have found my fuel pump isn't connected up.
I've had a search round here and the German XT Foren and I'm getting a slightly contradictory stories. The Germans:
XT600 Forum - Anzeige des Themas #2574 - TENERE "reserve" info
Seem to conclude that there is only a tiny reserve you lose out on (0.1 l) anyway, so just pipe it in direct to the carb. Replacing the fuel pump just gives me something to potentialy cause grief in the future (learnt some useful new words there!).
The recent discussion on the HUBB seems to say the fuel will eventually push past the carb, flood the engine and cause me Lots of grief.
I can't help but feel there must be more reserve than that below the carb - I know there's plenty of attention to detail, but adding a pump for a cup full of petrol? Seems over the top to me. Strikes me that if the reserve I'm missing out on is that small, there must be more of a reason for adding a fuel pump than reaching the reserve.
So...
Anyone know how much fuel is unreachable without a pump?
Anyone have experiance of long-term running without a pump?
Many thanks,
VT
(ps. for translating odd German words LEO Deutsch-Englisches Wörterbuch is brilliant - run by Munich University (I think) and a proper online dictionary rather than just a translator)
