What I had in mind was getting a used barrel from a breakers, but I thought it likly that later XT600 parts would be more readily available.
However,the head and base gasket part numbers change after 1988 so I wondered if yamaha had changed the barrel to such an extent that it would be difficult to fit to my earlier engine.
I will go and look at the site suggested by Barry as this could be a good way around my problem, though I woulr rather use a standard Yamaha head gasket to keep obtaining spares on the road straight forward, should the need arise.
I will also price up getting a new liner fitted, but finding servicable parts in a breakers has got to be the cheapest option, if they fit.
