The mystery is solved...got interrupted with a family dinner, but now the whole top end is off, and Its the bearing between the crankshaft and the connecting rod that is worn...I could both feel it and SEE it...
Was hoping I didnt have to split the whole engine, but theres no way around now...
Any tips on what new parts/gaskets and stuff I need when doing that, and where I can get it?
And who can change the bearing?

thats a serious rebuild job you got there
a big end bearing (conrod to crank) needs to be done by a specialist it can't be done at a local motorcycle repair shop
you need a full gasket set, engine assembly paste, and some thread lock.
i'd also recomend changing the woodruff keys on the crank and balance shaft.

Well now how do I get the left side cover off??? Can the starter stay attached or do I have to remove it? Tried to loosen the cover over the starter, but it sticks very hard..Im afraid of breaking something... Aint fun being green right now...:-/

you're gonna need to split the cases to do the crank so you might aswell strip everything off the engine so that means the starter motor too, the smaller side cover that covers the starter gear has to come off anyway because there is screws that hold the main side cover on under it

if you don't know what you are doing you may want to take the engine to a repair shop or enlist the help of someone who has rebuilt an engine before - will save you a lot of grief and money (and time).

Nah, there has to be a first time, and its the only way to learn. Im not THAT green, just a few questinons here n there..... and I like doing it ;-)

i know its not ideal listening to a download, but something simple to check before pulling the engine apart is what i found on my varadero a couple of weeks ago, and sounds very similar to this,
the down pipe was loose on the engine causing a blow that sounded just like a knock, coming every two revs.

n.....thats good advice - keep an eye for ahything loose or "not quite right" as you go - you may find the problem without a full stripdown.
