Carb wear
Symptoms : bad idling though mixture screw fully out, and explosions in exhaust when throttle closed. Cause : 2nd carb disc shaft wear and seal leakage.
Have you had this problem? Where can we buy parts? Yammie doesn't seem to sell them here.

Have to say Fred - as another XTZ rider I haven't had this one yet - my carbs are playing up but I think it's the choke mechanism hence really bad starting - need to wait until I can get it off to check though....
As for the parts - all of them are listed on Yamaha's microfiche files for the bike and any bits I've needed before from this (in the carbs) they have been able to supply...
Have you tried further affield - any other dealers????
Tony.

You can easily check this : open the throttle a little bit, then look at the right side of the carb, you can see the pivot point of the shaft of the disc, then open the throttle a bit more, you can feel the point where the 2nd carb disc starts opening, and look if the shaft moves up and down before it starts turning.
And those parts we need are not in the Yammie books and/or computer here. I can't find anyone on the continent who can supply these parts.
As for the choke mechanism, don't ever wash your bike. Especially not with a hp cleaner. It's a dirt bike and so should it be.
How far must your idle mixture screw be turned out before it idles ok?

Do you have a copy of the microfiche files? for the carbs? or them all - can email one or snail mail the lot for you if you want..
Let me know and if we can identify the part, bike details I can try and get a price for you over here and then snail mail the lot over to you....
Does that make sense....
Tony.
