Yes, definitely. The workshop manual confirms this. Surprisingly enough, the handbook doesn't mention the chain, neither size nor type. It does, however, advise you that the transmission is a left foot operation!

Lol, the owners manual is not exactly forthcoming with useful information.

Where did you get the workshop manual from and is it any good?

I emailed Haynes but was informed they don't have a manual for the XT600E.

Back to the chain, the stock one from CMS is 203 Euros, ouch!
A heavy duty one online is £29.99 or an X ring DID 520VX is £55.

I was thinking of buying the X ring. Any reason why I should not use the X ring DID chain?

Chain

Buy the best you can afford, it's always worth it in the end.
Regarding the manual, look at the links at the top of the list of threads. One is for the manual, the other for the parts list.

X-rings are a better quality sealing ring than the 0-ring.

Any DID 0-ring or X-ring will do the job.

I cant remember if it's a 520 or 525 !! Check the manual or the old one.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
