Does lowering XT600E damage chain rollers?
Hi all,
I would now like to lower the bike but wonder if doing so will cause the chain rollers to be quickly damaged.
In the past the pre-load adjuster on the rear shock absorber of my wife’s XT600E has wound down without us noticing and this has resulted in the chain quickly chewing into both top and bottom chain rollers. After resetting the shock pre-load the replacement rollers lasted well.
I have since changed the shock for a Wilber one with independently (from pre-load) adjustable ride height. It uses a threaded rod just above the bottom eye to adjust the shock body length from original length to 15mm shorter. I am using this to lower the back of the bike and dropping the yokes down the forks to lower the front a similar amount. Is this less likely to result in chain roller damage than too little pre-load?
Has anyone that has lowered an XT600E and then had problems with their chain rollers?
Thanks
Mark
