hub and sproket

I was lubing my chain on a 90 xt 600. I notice that the sproket was loose inside the hub on the rear rim. Is this normal? The sprocket is okay on the hub

Dont know if i understand you correct, but maybe remove and check the rubber absorber inside?

The sprocket attaches to a hub then that goes into the rim. When I was lubing the chain up ,I noticed the sprocket had a little wiggle to it . The sprocket was tight against the hub but the hub going into to the rim had a little play. Now if I take the rim off and see those rubber absorbers what am I looking for , wear? Can maybe the axle is not tight enough? Street bikes they are one piece they don't have those rubber aborbers and the rims are one piece. I hope this helps for the description. Thanks again

Yes if the play is in and out its not correct torque, if its play the chain way up and down its the rubber. You will see when remove hub, its supposed to be thight to get in and out.

How many miles to you get on those absorbers rubber? There are only 10,500 miles on the bike.

I will check the torque first. If that is not it then I will take the rim off and see what is up with that.

Hard to tell, depence on many factors..Just check them, and check that all distance shims are in place between frame and hub.

I just checked the torgue on the rear wheel. Who would of thought that it was way off I re torqued to 65 ft pounds and now there is just a tiny very little movement. Nothing like before. I will keep a look at it and see if it gets worse. I will look tosee if there is a bearing in there too. Thanks X man

I went to the parts catalog they do show a bearing but seems parts 5,6,7,8,9 are not on the parts list any more

You need to find another parts catalog, they are all there! Only way this happens is if removed original nut and replaced with a nut without the pin, checkout 32,33. Remove tire and check your bearings anyway, NEVER ride with bad bearings and you cant check them enough!

I went to the parts catalog on bike bandit for the rear wheel. It soows bearings for gthe hub but no part numbers. Looking for bearings for the hub not for the wheel.

For some reason where I was looking there were no part nummbers but they had a picture. I can see now on the web site you provided. Now I took the rim off and the bearing seems fine. I just felt the bearing and turned it it seemed okay even the rim too. How do I know if the rubber absorber are bad ? Maybe I should just change the bearings cause they might be originals anyway. Can I press them in myself or should I bring the rim and parts to the dealer to do. Should I change the seals too or just the bearings. Thanks again for your help

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
