Yes it does need lubricating.
PJ1 is a good spray on lubricant .
Chain oilers are very good as well , look in the forum for info on Scottoilers and Loobman .
Choose whichever you think fits your requirement the best .

Exclamation Oil for KLR-650 and Honda XL1000 Varadero

I usually use Bel-Ray multipurpose drive-chain oil. It's a little expensive but very, very useful. Periodically you have to clean all the chain with kerosene or DW-40 to take the dirt off.

You beat me to it as I posted this same response to a different thread at the HUBB.

Another place to gain opinions on chain lubes is at the AdvRider forum (ADVrider - Powered by vBulletin).

cheap

Hi Guys,

I do it low budget and use chainsaw oil and a brush. Its more messing but works well and its very cheap compairing to chain spray. I payed 102 Rand (10,50 Euro) for 5 ltr. chain saw oil. That will last me as long as 30 chain sprays or even longer.

regards

Thomas

80W-90 gear oil. Yes: the same you put in a truck engine. The best choice, in my opinion. And cheap. Try it.
