powerfull enduro headlight?

hello,
I m riding a TT600R'2001; the original headlight didn't last too long, so I've removed the old light & speedometer and put an acerbis DHH HEADLIGHT CE/DOT CERTIFIED (http://www.acerbis.it/moto/index.php...&id=233&cat=17)
but can't see anything during night;
what type of enduro headlight with powerfull light would You recomend? I m sure guys riding some enduro-rallys at night must have some really good front-lights;

less than $500 for HID - a complete bargain. if it fits, fit it! HID is the business!

I've looked into HID conversions too as we use them a lot in rallying,but as far as i've found out there isn't a dual-filament H4 replacement available yet.There are plenty listed(try ebay),mostly from the States/Canada/Far East,but if you really look into it they are all single filament units.Fine if you have a twin headlamp system as you can use one in the main beam unit,and another in the dip.One little bit of advise when looking at these though....if anyone tells you their units are made by Hella,they are telling you fibbs.Hella do not and have not ever made an HID unit!

Sylvania is making head light assemblies that have HID low beam and Halogen high beam. When you turn on the high beam, it has both filaments turned on. They really only make them for cars, so they are sold in pairs, but you should be able to get a 7" round or an 8"x6" or something. Making a mount (or modifying one) is not too difficult. Matthew

Hi Maciek

Welcome home from your amazing trans-Africa trip. Now, your subject here is most interesting to me too as I think the TTR headlight is crap. I sent a request to bajadesign.com but they said the TTR strator is weak and fragile and that there isn't much to do. However it seems like you've been on the case. Have you received and mounted the Trailtech racelight? Please let us know your experiences!!!

Helo Erik,
I haven't figured out yet what to do with the front light; My bike is dirty - I havent clean it yet after trans africa; First I think I will have to do a little engine rebuild after 50 000 but maybe its not necessery - its not eating oil; where are you now? how is your ttr going?

Mac, I entered Thailand from Cambodia two days ago. The bike goes and goes, yet I've decided to retire it because some mornings it is a project starting it. I'm shipping the TTR home in a month and have a mod.2004 with a button and with zero on the clock ready to be shipped back here. Life is good Now I only need a good headlight, so I might try the Trailtech light too.

Hella do make HID units. My Hella unit sits in front of me as I write: part number 5DV 007 760-47 for the ballast and it drives a D2S bulb in a neat little case (Micro Xenon). Light is v. bright.

Touratech sell these on with a bit of bracketry and some instructions at pretty high prices. But look on ebay and you will find a pair for reasonable money. Split them with a mate or sell one on. Susquehanna MotorSports have some great info here: http://www.rallylights.com/useful_info/hid_faq.htm


If you don't want to hunt around on the web talk to Patsy Quick. Patsy said she was selling them at the Dirt Bike show. (http://www.teamdesertrose.com/)

If you want a H4 equivalent unit talk to the guys at hids 4U: (http://www.hids4u.co.uk/default.asp)

Hids 4U are very helpfull and have lots of spare bits and pieces.

I love my Xenon lights - fab.

Thanks for the info. Since I haven't seen my TTRE yet...:

I sendt a request to Trailtech. They said that most bikes need a DC conversion. Regarding the TTRE (european version) they asked if you can turn on the stock light when the machine is not running. Well, can you?

Yes, I did put an oilcooler just after I baught it new, before the Monbolian trip; But I m no sure if this is really neccessery;

perfectly understand You; I think the bike will be OK without the oilcooler; I wouldn do any changes in the bike just before the start;

OK, here are the words from Trailteck.net. Their HID racelight draws over 100 watts to fire, then it drops to the standard 35 watt draw. We need a good battery for the starting. The question is if the RE battery is good enough? What do you think?

If yes, we should have no issue. That is - I guess - it will be a good idea to rewire the lights so they do not light before we want them to (e.g. a separate switch as Leigh wisely suggests)
