An inner tube size question ???

Standard rear tyre and tube size for my XT600E is 120/70/17.

I usually run 130/80-17 tyres as I prefer the profile.

Well, im finding it a real pain to get tubes. I had to let my bike go on a ship without packing spares because non were available. Ill be taking the spares as hand luggage in a couple of weeks.

Well, i saw some Michellin Airstop tubes on EBay . They were advertised 130/80 -17 so i snapped them up..

Now, they arrived today and they are actually 140/80-17

Does anyone see this as a problem ? Iv run big tubes before without a problem but overlanding in South America will be a different kettle of fish.

Theres gonna be too much rubber in there isnt there. Especially if I go back to 120's. They will puncture more easily I think.

What are your thoughts ??

If they turned out to be 90/90 x 21 I might have been a little worried but I wouldn't lose any sleep over the difference between 130 and 140. After a few weeks you'll be pleased that the bike goes at all!

Usually I would agree but........

The michellin tubes I have just bought are suitable for 140,150 and 160 (says on the tube)

Im only meant to be running 120's anyway.

Dont you think its alot of rubber to be squeezing in my tyres ?

More prone to puntures ???

There is a very slight chance that upon inflation your SPARE tube might have a small fold in it and after MANY miles MIGHT puncture .
However if you inflate your tyre to about 10 or 15 psi over the recommended pressure , then fully deflate it and pump it back up again the fold will most likely "unfold itself " and inflate evenly .
It's good practice to do this anyway even when you have the correct size of tyre and tube .

Quit worrying mate or you will get an ulcer .

I'm not over worried. Just ironing out those last niggles
