tesch racks,boxes,xtz660


has anyone had experince with bernd teschs racks and alu boxes for an xtz 660.
he seems to build a quality product that would suit a rtw trip.im debating between the touatech boxes and hepco becker racks vs tesch setup. thanks ...phil.

ok... this time i will answer my own question.. bernd tesch doesnt make racks for the xtz 660 due to the fact only two other people have made a request in the past and he doesnt consider the xtz to be
a usual overland vehicle.... looks like i better get the welder out...

Hi,
I have Hepco&Becker racks and cases, and it is built in a good quality, but i think that touratech set is better, especialy cases.

Is there any better bike to do a rtw-trip than a 660 Tenere?

Hi folks - probably said it all before but if you want a good setup for mounting rack on an XTZ660 - then I can't recommend strongly enough getting a set of Hepcko and Becker hoops and have a local welder make you up something like this:



I know the boxes get rated from good to bad by people but the rack is solid if you choose the correct mounting points and replace the bolts with extended ones throught the frame with nuts on the back.

tony robinson...this is the same set up as i was considering, do you have any problems with seating space for a pillion...is it possible to set the boxes further back...have you had much experience riding two up over long distances with this setup.

I mounted the boxes to give enough room for two up with adult feet on the pillion pegs - I've only done a few thousand two up and fully loaded - so far no problems really comfy and sleepable (wouldn't recommend it though) with the top box aswell. I wouldn't want to move them any further back though -

1) Fully loaded I like my tank bag to have some weight in it to keep the front down as without it there can be a weave at high speeds (70-80 mph)

2) On good back roads the front comes up too easily fully loaded - again.... same thing...

Would strongly recommend it - I will try to get Oz to post something on a section - he's travelled 2 up on a dommie with the same set up all summer - he's on route still will see if he responds...

Only thing - wind up the pre-load on your shock!

tony...legend... thats it then ,hepcko becker racks...thanks for the advice mate.i will definately get a new shock (wp) as im sure its going to cop a pounding..
thanks for the photos...ive put them on my fridge for insperation.

Travelling two up on a big single for long distances if hard on the bike and yourself. Just done 6000 odd miles on my dommie 2 up, 1000 off road. Pack super light, and a set of Aerostitch tank panniers (the biggest one they make) will help get some weight back over the front. I have carried all my heavy stuff like fluids in these and they work real well. Another expense but worth it. Make sure that you allow room on the seat to move around whilst riding otherwise you will be screaming with a sore butt way sooner than if you were riding solo. e mail me if you have any more questions. good luck with the journey.
