TT600K Rebuild
Hello, I have been reading posts on this site for a while, very informative stuff.
I recently started fixing up the 1983 TT600 (36A) I have had sitting in the shed for 7 years. Due to low compression readings (90psi) and an oil leak, I have removed the engine from the frame and started dismantling it to inspect everything for wear and tear, new gasket kit and rebuild the top end.
This would have been simpler if I hadn't found what looks like a few gear teeth in the bottom of the case. I am going to have to split the cases now to get to the gearbox. I know from reading posts on this site that the 5th gear in these engines is prone to wearing, and is most likely the gear with a toothless smile. Looking into buying new gears, the 5th pinion gear has been discontinued (5Y1-17151-01-00) but the 5th gear wheel is still available (2JT-17251-10-00).
What are my options with rebuilding my gearbox?
Can I fit newer model gears on the axles? Can I fit a newer model gearbox in the TT case? maybe out of an XT or SRX?
Thanks for reading this I would appreciate any help or suggestions from this terrific forum of knowledge.
