Forget about ignition unit. BTW you replaced it and the problem continues
You r done with point one (replaced collectors) OK
point two carburettor must be not only drained, but disassembled at least in the low part, all the two main jets and idle jet (total 3 of them) inspected checking for dirt that closes flow. This seems the case, as you say that bike starts but like a diesel. Also the float needle must be removed, there is a screw under it, and a filter inside, that can be closed by dirt.
I remember read in an old post how much petrol should go from tank if you put a bottle under the disconnected pipe... anyway if you try, it must flow quickly.
don't trust mech if he says that carb is ok IT MUST BE OPENED AND SERVICED FULLY
