WANTED - Yamaha XT Tenere SW London Mechanic
All,
Simple really - love my '86 Tenere, cr@p at bike mechanics. Really want to make an effort to look after the old girl - new years resolution - she's in need of tender loving care. If you are in the vicinity of South West London and you're a mechanic with Yamaha XT Tenere (1VJ) know how (I've come to realise they have their very own idiosynchrasies that are best attended to by those in the know...), please drop me a note!!
Please don't reply if you only have chest beating questions, head shaking and tut-tutting about why I have a Tenere and no mechanical savvy... really becomes mind numbingly annoying - thanks in advance!

Hmmm--sounds like you just eliminated most every bloke on the planet with those parameters! Would this be an inquiry from a Princess I once knew?

Hi "J",
How's tings ?
I thought someone would have given you some contacts by now. I suppose you are asking a lot looking for a Tenere specialist.
Has the beast got a specific fault or does it just need a general sorting out ?
If you get stuck, I have a bike shop local to me who's pretty good (I have trusted them with my bike in the past) but you know that's a bit of a drag out town.
Also I have a mate who is very competent & thorough. He doesn't do it for a living but would do a good job for a fair price. I could ask him how he's fixed at the moment. He's near Southampton.

David Lambeth
David Lambeth is in Boston, Lincs (Eastern UK)
The man has an unhealthy obsession with XTs and knows absolutely everything about them, almost certainly the worlds expert (genuinely) on XTs

Hey guys - thanks for all your responses, much appreciated! Hey 'C' how ya doin?! Good to hear from you - like the sound of the guy in Southampton, have friends there, so could kill two birds with one stone if i used him
Nothing specificly wrong with the old girl, just needs a general looking after, and I like her to have another service / check over, to make sure I'm not missing anything. You know what you guys are like - you can tell from the pitch of the engine when it's running if something isn't right - I'm not blessed with that know how unfortunately, and so I'd just like peace of mind
Dick - I've heard of David, but that seems an awful long way to go for a service for me, I've used him before for advice though - he really does have an unhealthy obsession with XT's :-)
Hey Globi - yes the blue ones are the old classics, but I love my mine - despite not giving her the tender loving care she needs, she is almost unfailingly reliable.

Can I recommend giving this chap a call?
No XT expert, per se, simply a good and honest mechanic that looked after me and my various bikes for quite a few years when I lived in London and when I moved out!! His name is Dave.

Thank you!
Hey Warthog - thanks for the contact, Wimbledon is around the corner from me, so this is excellent news. I'll give them a ring in Feb and sort something out with them.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
