Wet weather running - xt600e '02
My xt doesn't like the wet... just had a mild jetwash (the bike, not me ).Bike wants to cut out at small throttle openings and currently doesn't start even after a bit of wd40 around the coil/sidestand-cutout-switch etc.I've already protected the ht lead with a bit of innertube and tiewraps. Likely suspects?:confused1:

The coil is in line with front wheel spray. If you try to run the bike in the dark, you'll see the sparks as it's shorting out.
Take the tank off, remove, clean and dry the coil, get all the WD40 off, then coat the entry and exit points (electrical connectors in, HT lead out) with clear silicon sealant. Allow it to dry and it should be fine. Check the plug is a cosy fit, and reasonably well sealed in the HT lead while you're there.
I've also added a fender extender. It's only 6"" longer, (genuine Yamaha part), but I've had no problems now in 3 months, despite a weekly mud plug!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
