Xt 600 95 gas tank on a 86 frame.
Hey all hope all the season prep is going well. I'm basing my head against the wall trying to figure out if I can make a 95 xt 600 acerbis 23L tank work for my 86 49R xt600 frame. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

So by saying 49R i'm guessing you're in the USA (fill out your profile) its more commonly known as a 43F, and you're trying to fit a tank designed for a 600E (3TB) which is a completely different style of frame, the 3TB has its oil in the frame where your 43F has an external tank.
Most (not all) tanks can be made to fit any bike with some welding & fabrication, however i suggest you buy a seat that matches the tank you're trying to fit or else it will look shit.
Good luck.
Mezo.

Thanks for the answer I updated my profile also. I figured I could make anything thing fit with cutting and welding. But I was trying to avoid that. I dont have a problem buying a seat. But is that all I will need to change to make it fit? Or will I need to cut up my frame?

The newer tank is like 2 inches wider around the frame backbone than the older bikes . To get it to fit will require welding some wider tabs for the front and a whole new rear mount pad . The 2 bikes are entirely different .
