XT Girls in BIG TROUBLE.. a locktite tragedy!
As if I jinxed it with our question about locktite...
It was all going so well...!
We've removed one of our engines (will post separely about the fun THAT was!) - and discovered a HORRIFIC mess inside!!
Upon checking the stator - (we only did it, to LEARN and see WHAT it looks like etc. etc.) We found that SOMEONE had fixed it, at some point, and soldered with big fat GLOBULES all over the place... bad! bad! bad!
And then, suddenly, it became clear why the battery goes flat randomly!!! We kept cleaning and fixing connections.. which works for a while.. and then it randomly goes flat again! Duh!
And TESTING it with our brand new little yellow meters, showed us that INDEED, the stator only shows INTERMITTENT current.
(Did you know you can use the meter to measure your own current... try and put it on your tongue!!! Its great fun!)
BUT THAT IS NOT THE WORST PART....
Because... thanks to a lovely big box shipped from Germany - we had A LOVELY REPLACEMENT STATOR just waiting there, to be installed....
HOWEVER....
The same SOMEONE who made the BOTCH job... also LOCKTITED (or more like WELDED) the bolts that keeps the stator in place...
...and we have spent HOURS AND HOURS and every tip given here... and SWEARING a LOT....
And finally... sheared four of the bolts off.
NOW DONT CRY!!! -- because we have cried enough already!! --
What we have to do now is:
1) Pay an engineer to drill out the stubs and rethread the holes
or
2) Find a new STATOR cover from somewhere....
Soooooo, I don't know if stator covers are things that usually kick about in the back of people's garages... but if you happen to stumble across one...
Pretty please... ?!
