XT600 sidestand enquiry.....

URGENT! Could anyone help please?
I have an XT600, 1989 vintage, the sidestand has been, by a previous owner modified to make the bike look "cooler" ( the trend here in spain is to have sidestands so short the bike is all but laid on its side!!!!!!!!!!) it also has a bend in it that i dont think is natural..... so, could someone please brave the outdoors (unless you keep it in the kitchen or living room) and measure their sidestand? just the length of the tube from the foot to the bottom of the "U" shaped yoke? if you could let me have the measurements in millimetres, that would be really helpfull.
I plan to fabricate a new one using the Original yoke and the foot and some heavy duty Tube I have to know the correct, just need length.

please either respond to this post or feel free to PM me.

Thanks in advance.

Martyn

Hello Martyn,

The measurement you need is two hundred and seventy millimetres (270mm)
measured in a straight line from the bottom of the "U" to the bottom of the foot.
This is off a 2003 xt, but i`m sure its all the same.

Hope this is what you need,

Martyn,

Just to be precise this is measured off the inside radius of the "U".

Cheers Andy!

Thanks to Andy's measuring I now have a fully functional, strong as you like, twin-wall ( tube in a tube) sidestand, and as soon as I find a way of putting pics on here I will post some pics. I tried Picasa, but I use a Macintrash Laptop and I supposedly need Mac Osx 10.4 tiger and have only Osx 10.3.1 ( or some such like that!

I would have done more on the bike today but for a change, here in southern Spain it is

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
