Hi Bill,
Mine is an XT600E 2000 and I have made a bikini type fairing to take a little of the wind pressure off my neck etc.I used a paint stripping heat gun to mould and shape a piece of smoked plastic. I also made a bracket that mounts on the handlebar bolts with 2X 5mm alum rods running from the bracket to the top of the shield for support.
At highway speeds it works well enough. It makes a longer trip far more comfortable.
As for the fuel consumption, I have a 25l Acerbis tank that at 90-100km/h returns 21/22 km/l giving a range of 500+kms. As for reving the engine, any new motor needs a run in period and should be operated at lower revs. On the other end is an older engine that if reved too high will just flog out.
I have found that it is normally my wallet that determines the speed of my travel. 1000rpm less over a 1000k's makes a fair difference to what you pay at the bowser.
Cheers Ben.
