Any rim will bend if your have too much weight and not enough tyre pressure. Alloy rims are easily knocking back into shape. Mild steel rims like the XT bend just as easily.
Your experiences must be with cheap Chinese alloy rims. DID make supurb alloy rims that last forever.
The only reason Yamaha fitted steel rims to the XT is because they're dirt cheap. It's a budget bike.

Well i have 30years old steel rims with no rust and excellent condition, and they dont whey a ton... DID rim cracked so you wrong! Steel rims are awesome! Funny you think the suspension sucks because of rim haha. I bet you cant wheelie because rim whey a ton hehe..
