Thanks for all the great advice that you guys have given me it is much appreciated.
What I am going to do is drop the oil and top up with new stuff at the right quantity and give the bike a good run and see what happens the next morning on startup.
If it is still the same I`m going to order new seals and gaskets and just do it,the bike is too nice to leave it as it is.
Just a couple more things that I need to ask..
Would it be a good idea to fit new rings while the top end is off and what is the correct oil for the TT600E (UK Climate)?
I have checked the bikes handbook and Yamaha say use 20w/50,they do not mention alternative grades for different climates.
I do realise that big single, air cooled engines will run hotter than a modern 4 cylinder liquid cooled lump and England isn`t the warmest country around.
Should I stick to what the handbook says?
Thanks Guys
Paul.

I use 5w40 in winter, and 10w50 al other times. I Live in Denmark so the weather is about the same, and i ride a xt600e, which is about the same aswell.
I use fullsynthetic "procycle" from www.louis.de and change around 3500km.

Its oil draining back into the sump overnight... once the pump has returned it back to the tank it stops smoking.... stem seals won't cure it...

I have not actually bought any engine parts for the bike yet as I was going to change the oil first with the correct amount and see what happens,if that fails I was then going to take the top end off and see what is going on in there.
The company that I was going to get the parts from are in Germany and it is possible to make the order online with them or phone it through as their staff speak English plus they post worldwide.
Couldn`t believe my luck when I stumbled onto their website, they seem to specialize in everything XT/TT/TTR/SR,they have a downloadable parts catalogue that actually shows pics of the parts and order numbers..great company if you are into these type of bikes.
KEDO - Performance Products is the website.
Regarding the last reply to my thread...some one else mentioned oil draining back into the sump overnight..started looking into it and found out that there is an engine oil valve that is fitted somewhere that stops this problem happening.
This valve consists of a ball bearing a spring and a seal, but I have no idea where it is located..maybe I should buy one from Kedo and try that first instead of stripping my engine.
Cheers
Paul.

Forgot to mention that on the top left corner of the Kedo website there is a box that will allow you to change the language from German to English if needed.

Yes Jens,Ive just read somewhere that the valve is next to the oil filter housing and below the banjo bolt union, don`t know if I will be able to get to it through the filter housing or have to take the side casing off, either way will not be able to do anything until next week.
Once I have changed the oil and oil valve will post the results on here as it seems that other people are having similar problems with their engines.
Thanks for your kind help and advice.
Paul.

You need to take the sidecover off.
